Another DotRadio User Feedback

Apr 11, 2022Interview

DotRadio is a unique provider of the .radio extension for your domain name.

If you are interested about having a .radio extension for your domain name or even redirect your .radio domain toward your actual domain name, you can.

Instead of being YourRadioStation.com, you will become YourRadioStation.radio and that is rockin’!

DotRadio is quite new, it was launched in 2017. We understand that some radio owners are shy to take the big step. Therefore, we have contacted some of our professional users to talk about their .radio domain and their experience with it.

In this article, we will present the owner of Tony Lloyd radio who uses .radio for his website hosted in England.

It is also interesting to see that some .radio owners still keep “.com” as front domain even if they have registered a “.radio” domain. They use “.radio” in order to redirect people that find them through their .radio domain.

Let us introduce you Tony, proud owner of tonylloyd.radio.

Introduction

DotRadio: Hello Tony, thank you for being with us today to talk about your radio and the .radio domain. For starters, could you introduce yourself and what is your website about?

Tony: Hi DotRadio team, I am happy to talk with you guys. I am Tony and I am a British Broadcaster and filmmaker, you can find all the detail on my website powered with my .radio domain. The website address is tonylloyd.radio

DotRadio: Nice to meet you Tony, we are happy that our solution fits your needs. To dig a little deeper, how many visits / auditors did you get per week?

Tony: Sure, with my website I get about 100 visits per week, which is small but since I started to use my .radio domain, it started to rise!

DotRadio: Happy to hear that! That is not bad, and where is your radio located?

Tony: I have 2 studios, one is based in London and the other one in France as I tend to reach in both countries. Fortunately, Paris and London are close to each other.

DotRadio: That is nice, I bet it could be a lot of travel if the studio were further apart. And what can we listen to on your radio?

Tony: We can listen to many things, mostly songs. I tend to broadcast mostly songs from my generation, the X generation, love songs and music from all oldies Radios. Of course, you can also listen to me!
There is more information about the radio on the website obviously, I encourage everybody to check it out! tonylloyd.radio

Choosing the domain name

DotRadio: That is a lot of enjoyable content that you have there. How did you hear about us? How did you find us?

Tony: I found out about you on the internet and google search. I also saw some tweets and LinkedIn posts. It was very interesting to discover DotRadio.

DotRadio: We are glad that we can be found online and to be of interest for people (at least people from the radio world). Where did you purchase your domain? through which provider?

Tony: I bought my domain on register.radio, I believe that this is your website. I thought the free options that come with it are very worth it.

DotRadio: Thanks, we try to do as much as we can to help radio owners, and radio websites with their online presence. In what way do you think DotRadio is a better fit than another domain (like .fm for instance)?

Tony: I think that having a DotRadio domain name is better for my business. Dotradio is also simpler, short and straight forward. These days, it is not just FM anymore, we must live with our time. I saw that there was another radio domain but none is as official as DotRadio.
I chose DotRadio because it is like DotTV, it is the Official domain extension for all the radio of the world.

DotRadio: That is exactly what we try to develop and show around. How would you describe the process of getting the domain?

Tony: The process is super easy. In just a few steps I could buy it and start using it. With the free profile page option, I could even have been online in 5min. But I had a website already, so I used the redirection instead.

DotRadio: That was my following question, to know If you will use our link shortener, profile page and
redirections system.

Tony: Yes, that is exactly what I did, I used the redirection system to point tonylloyd.radio toward my actual website.

DotRadio: That is great, we are happy to hear that our free tools are useful! Do you think it is difficult to migrate from a .com domain to a .radio domain to use .radio at its full potential (main domain and not redirected)?

Tony: Well, I am good at tech so I would obviously say that it is super easy. However, as a tech guy, I think that you made the process easy even for beginners or people that do not know anything. In addition, all the content you have to help us on your blog, will make it a piece of cake for anybody.

DotRadio: Thank you, that is nice to hear that our work is bearing fruit and is useful for our users. You said you redirect your DotRadio website toward your DotCom. What is resenting you to change your main domain to .radio? Is it the technical aspect or some SEO impact that bothers you?

Tony: No, not really, I know that my audience will increase with the DotRadio domain. As I mentioned at the beginning, the number of visitors increased right after I purchased DotRadio. It is just that DotCom is internationally known, DotRadio is more specific for now. I may decide to swap in the future. However, it helps me a lot because when people see “DotRadio”, they know straight away what my website is about.

DotRadio: We understand your point of view, as long as our domain is helpful for radio websites, that is all that matters for us. Do you think that it would be useful for you, if we would offer some support to help you do the migration from .com to .radio?

Tony: Well, as I said, I am good with tech so I would say that I do not need help. However, it is still good for beginners so they can do it smoothly.

Feedback

DotRadio: Thank you for your answers. Now, about DotRadio, what do you think that we should do so that radio users use .radio as a main domain instead of .com?

Tony: As I said, for me it is a domain that is not yet internationally known as DotCom is. So, if you increased awareness of your domain, the radios of the world will start to switch little by little and there you go.

DotRadio: Well, thank you very much for your feedback and your time Tony. We are happy to meet DotRadio users of the world. We hope that you will get the best out of your DotRadio domain and that this interview will help a lot of radio owners to understand what we do and why we are useful for them.
Have a wonderful day and all the best to you and your radio.

Tony: Thank you, that was my pleasure to chat with you.
